A formation of Mealy parrots leaving the colpa. A big flush from
the claylick is one of the most sensational experiences. Sometimes
an alarm call will be heard amongst the general excited calling,
then there is a milli-second of silence as all the birds stop what
they are doing and leap into the air as though starting a hundred
meter sprint. The noise is intense, just like a crowd cheering on
a race, as all the birds start to call to keep in contact with their
mates, while the visual experience is overwhelming as the eyes don't
know which blink of colour to follow. Sometimes the birds return
to the clay, but the biggest flushes tend to signal the end of feeding
activity as the birds disperse into the surrounding rainforests.
